10 Dating Resolutions You Should Make in 2023

Want to kiss your 2022 dating habits goodbye?

‘Tis the season of recalibration and reinvention! While many people focus on health, finance, or career goals, one of the most common resolutions we see are related to relationships and dating. Unfortunately, with the complicated love/hate relationship that many singles have with their dating life, the idea of reevaluating and reinventing it can be exceptionally overwhelming.

In my 11 years of work as a professional matchmaker, there are many recurring tips, advice, and support I give to my clients to help them navigate the dating world. Now, as we all enter a new year and subsequently, a new post-pandemic era of dating and meeting people, I have gathered my top 10 pieces of advice to help you start 2023 off right in the dating world!

Each of us are in unique circumstances, have had our own individual experiences, and hold our own distinctive perspectives. However, it’s important to remember that in order to move forward successfully in the dating world, we attract what we are ready for. So, remember to put yourself first, and really think about what you can offer to your ideal partner.

1. Be honest about what you want.

It's important to know what you're looking for in a partner. Be upfront about your goals, values, and dealbreakers from the beginning to save yourself and others time and heartache.

2. Don’t settle.

It can be tempting to settle for someone who seems "good enough," but it's important to hold out for someone who truly meets your needs and makes you happy. It may take longer to find the right person, but it will be worth the wait.

3. Don’t take things too seriously.

Dating can be stressful, but it's important to remember to have fun and not take things too seriously. It's okay to be vulnerable and open yourself up to the possibility of love, but don't put too much pressure on yourself or any one particular relationship.

4. Trust your instincts.

If something doesn't feel right, it probably isn't. Trust your gut and don't be afraid to walk away from a situation that doesn't align with what you want or deserve.

5. Be open to new experiences.

One of the best ways to meet new people is to try new things. Whether it's joining a sports team or taking a cooking class, stepping outside of your comfort zone can lead to unexpected connections and potential love interests.

6. Know yourself.

It's important to have a good understanding of who you are and what you want before you start dating. Take some time to reflect on your values, goals, and dealbreakers. This will not only help you attract the right partner, but it will also make the dating process less overwhelming.

7. Be open to different types of people.

It's easy to fall into the trap of only swiping right on people who fit a certain "type," but it's important to keep an open mind. You never know who you might connect with, so don't discount someone just because they don't fit your usual preferences.

8. Be honest from the beginning.

Honesty is key in any relationship, and it's important to be upfront about your intentions from the start. Don't lead someone on if you're not interested in a serious relationship, and be clear about what you're looking for. This will save you both time and heartache.

9. Practice good communication.

Effective communication is crucial in any relationship, and it's important to practice this skill even in the early stages of dating. Make sure to listen actively, be open to feedback, and express your own needs and boundaries.

10. Don’t rush things.

It can be easy to get caught up in the excitement of a new relationship, but it's important to take things slow and not rush into anything. It's okay to take your time getting to know someone and make sure they're the right fit for you.

When incorporating each of these tips into your dating life, remember to prioritize yourself and your well-being… in this busy world, it’s easy to neglect your own needs when you're caught up in the dating game. Make sure to take care of yourself emotionally, physically, and mentally, and don't forget to have a life outside of your relationships.

I hope this advice helps you navigate the complicated and confusing dating world, especially as we collectively enter a mysterious new era of dating after the pandemic. The dating experience can be one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences you have in life, and if you remember to stay true to yourself by following my top ten tips, you’ll be well on your way to finding love.

Happy New Year!
