Dating, exploring and feeling cheesy like a hallmark movie set in Vancouver
Fall is upon us and if you are visiting Vancouver – VanCity or Raincouver – as some call it, fall is an amazing time for connecting, exploring and dating around the city. Like many coastal towns in Canada, be prepared for coolish evenings temperatures and a good chance of getting caught in the rain.
Vancouver is an easy city to explore as there are many options besides car rentals and taxis – that may be unreliable. All Vancouver Public Transportation is run by TransLink, it operates a variety of public transportation options in Vancouver and tickets are good across buses, SkyTrains and the SeaBus. But, you can also choose Uber or Lyft, or self-drive with Evo or Car2Go or rent Shaw Go bikes if you’re feeling more adventurous.
Downtown is walkable but transit is a good way to get to Kitsilano, Commercial Drive and the North Shore (including Grouse Mountain). Got some time, a hike up Cypress Mountain resort will reward you with a quieter hike with rewarding views. Grouse Mountain with other North Vancouver attractions, including the famous Capilano Suspension Bridge will all give you IG-worthy pics.
Date night in any city means great food and in VanCity it means seafood so fresh you’ll blush. Consider locally caught crab, lobster, or spotted prawns (in season). For those that need a pasta fix, Artusi Restaurant in New Westminster (or New West as the locals say) is not quite downtown but good, authentic Italian. The owner really cares and tries to make ever customer happy handmade pasta.
Not of enough cheese yet? Granville Island shopping, and the aquarium are always good date ideas and never disappoint. The aquarium isn’t currently publicizing their feeding hours, but you can hang around for that moment and see what the other animals are doing for fun or romance!
If you are really hitting it off on date night and need to get out of the city a great choice is to end up on Whistler Mountain. If you have your own vehicle, you’ll be able to impress a date by knowing some roadside attractions like Brandywine Falls and Tantulus Lookout but getting up the mountain is also possible via BC Transit.
To complete this sea-to-sky date night could end gourmet easts at Basalt. They specialise in wine, cheese and charcuterie, Basalt was made for date night. It is recommended to sit close to the action taking a seat at the bar. End up back downtown and feeling snacky late at night? Breka Bakery & Cafe is fantastic any time of day, seriously, all six locations in the city are open 24/7 and who doesn’t need a sugar fix at 2 am that only a strudel can repair.
According to Urban Dictionary Westcoast Girls have a great sense of humor, are down to earth, are open minded and adventurous. With a little planning and a sense of adventure, perfect dates are endless in this extraordinary west coast city!
