Five fun virtual date ideas for couples in lockdown

After a year of lockdowns and quarantine, virtual dates can begin to feel like a bit of a chore... Plus, it can be hard to tell if you have chemistry with someone over a screen! However, with some parts of the world still in a stay-at-home order, we wanted to give new couples some fun date ideas to bring you two even closer during lockdown!

  1. Dinner together, apart.
Something that lots of my clients have been doing during lockdown is trying new, fun recipes at home. We now have more time than ever to prep and cook food, so why not try something new? If you know your date is interested in a particular cuisine, try recreating their favourite dish together at home!
    - Send them the ingredients list prior to your date
    - Grab a glass of wine
    - Set up your laptop in the kitchen
    - Send them a video chat invitation
    - Cook together!
Cooking with your better half, family or friends can help you feel more connected and much happier.

  2. Games night.
Ask your date, what do you like to do in your free time? If they're interested in games nights or even just playing games solo– set up a virtual game's night! Gaming is a great way to take your mind off of things and have some fun! Many online platforms offer games to be played for two, here is a list of fun games to try. Or, just play a good old fashion game of 20 questions.

  3. Workout date.
Is your date into health and fitness? Offer to do a fitness class over Zoom together, or just go for a virtual walk together! Get your bodies moving and motivate each other through the screen. You can find many 20- or 30-minute workouts on YouTube, try Yoga with Adriene's 20-minute yoga flow!

  4. Movie night.
With the Oscars just around the corner, it's time to get caught up on the latest movies. Netflix Party is a Chrome extension that synchronizes video playback and adds a group-chat function to anything you want to watch on Netflix. Set up your laptop, send a video chat invitation and pick a movie to watch together!

  5. Dinner-delivery surprise.
If your close enough with your date to know their address, surprise them with a takeout night that also helps support a local business! Exchange addresses and don't ask any questions. Based on what you know about your date, and what restaurants you'd recommend, send them over surprise dinner! Be sure to watch them unbox and enjoy your surprise meal!
