The “Do’s & Dont’s” of topics to discuss on a first date
Why is this important you ask? Well, given we just met this person we still have a lot to learn. And yes asking questions is important but keeping the conversation relatively light and respectful on your first date is crucial. Giving off an overly opinionated demeanor on a specific topic can be awkward and extremely uncomfortable. Let’s break down a few topics to avoid while on a first date...
· Tip #1: Avoid talking about your ex: We all know that eventually the “Why did you and your ex break up” question may surface, but navigating this question is very important and can set the tone for what your date thinks about you. Never talk negatively about them (no matter how bad things ended), be respectful and say something short and sweet. This will show your maturity, and your ability to not harp on the past. It will show you’ve moved on and your ready for something new.
· Tip #2: Politics: Although politics can surface and be easily talked about without issues, we do recommend avoiding them given you don’t know your date overly well, and discussing this topic could lead to some awkward and even uncomfortable moments that is best avoided on the first date. Keep the conversation light and have fun!
· Tip #3: Asking deep personal questions: When we like someone and were excited about that first date it seems like we want to get to know everything about them right away. But in order to know deep personal topics about someone, trust is required as part of that process. Remember that getting to know someone is part of the journey, so just relax, and know that in time you will learn everything you need to, given that they are willing to share.
